The Mother / Son Dance

Since the inception of the wedding tradition, parents have always played an integral role in the marriage of husband and wife. In fact, in some traditions, marriages are pre-arranged by parents and grandparents. However, in traditional weddings that aspect is left up to the bride and groom. But there are certain dances set aside for parents that help to strengthen the bond between parent and child and offer wings when they have flown away from home. The mtoher / son dance is a dance between a mother and her groom son that is a symbol of the bond between the two. A wedding can be an emotional time for a mother who cherishes the love she has developed with her son as he has grown. In some traditions, before the mother / son dance is complete, the bride will step in and dance for the remainder of the song as a symbol of the new bond between husband and wife.

For most moms, the mother / son dance can be a dreaded dance marking the new beginning without her for her groom son. However, the song selected can make that moment much more meaningful and easier to accept, marking a cherished memory in the thoughts of any mother.
